Course Overview
Online English for Postgraduates is a 0-credit program consisting of four levels.
Online English for Postgraduates I is the introductory course, while Online English for Postgraduates IV is the most advanced, topic-based English course. Students who pass a course may enroll in the next level.

1. First-time students may be placed by EITHER taking the placement test or

submitting an English proficiency score report accepted by the Center
-
(see here for placement criteria).

2. Online English for Postgraduates IV is open only to students who have
-
passed Online English for Postgraduates III.

3. The following course levels are offered each academic year:

1. This course is delivered through online self-study. After logging in to the
-
course website, students can access the course materials and follow
-
the weekly schedule accordingly.

2. Students are also required to attend in-person discussion sessions and take
-
online quizzes and in-person phase exams.
Weighting
- Phase I Exam: 35%
- Phase II Exam: 35%
- Two Online Quizzes: 25%
- In-Person English Discussion Sessions: 10% (attend one session at lease)
Grades for each component will be calculated according to the percentages listed above. The term grade will be rounded to the nearest whole number. Any additional points earned from discussion sessions (if applicable) will then be added to determine the final course grade.
In-person Discussion Sessions

1. Discussion sessions are held in person only. Remote participation is
-
NOT available.

2. Students who attend one discussion session will receive the full credit for
-
participation (10%). Students who do not attend any session will receive 0
-
points for this component. However, they may still pass the course if the
-
scores from the other assessment components add up to the passing
-
requirement of 70 points.

3. Students who attend additional sessions (starting from the second session)
-
will earn 1 bonus point per session, which will be added to the final course
-
score. The maximum bonus is 14 points.

4. Each session lasts 50 minutes and features extended discussions based on
-
the online course materials. Sessions are conducted entirely in English, with
-
a maximum capacity of 30 students per session.

5. Students who do not actively participate or who converse in Chinese
-
during discussion sessions may NOT receive attendance credit.

1. Students who receive a final course score of 70 or above will be considered
-
to have passed the course. The transcript will indicate “Pass” without
-
displaying the numerical score.

2. Students who receive a final course score below 70 will be considered to
-
have failed the course. No record will be shown on the transcript.

1. Whether this course is a graduation requirement is determined by your
-
department. Please check your department's requirements before enrolling.

2. Students are responsible for keeping track of all exam reservation deadlines
-
and test dates. Failure to reserve an exam session or attend a scheduled
-
exam will result in a score of zero for that exam, and no make-up exam will
-
be granted. Please refer to the Exam Session Reservation Policies for
-
details.

3. Students who are unable to take a phase exam due to their graduate
-
coursework or other circumstances beyond their control should refer to the
-
Make-up Exam Policy.

4. Course grades are processed according to a standardized schedule. They
-
cannot be uploaded individually upon request. If this course is a graduation
-
requirement for your department, please complete it as ealier as possible to
-
avoid delaying your graduation.

5. Students are NOT required to drop or withdraw from this course. If the
-
course grades are below 70, no record will be shown on their official
-
transcript.
